NetPayments provides AVS (Address Verification Service) that checks the address of the card holder against the billing address thus helping to reduce credit card theft and crime.

Under current legislation it is the Merchant who bears the cost of fraudulent transactions, so it is in your interest to be as vigilant with online transactions as you are with highstreet transactions. Just as you are likely to watch for suspicious behaviour from face-to-face customer, you can take a number of steps to attempt to prevent online fraud.

The best method for combatting fraud is to know your customers. Learn to recognise the way your average customer does business, the size of transactions he makes, how much information he provides. Then you will learn be more wary of those whose method is more suspicious.
